Commercial Sitework & Grading in Tampa, FL
Commercial sitework and grading in Tampa Bay for new construction, renovations, and infrastructure projects. Every durable paving or concrete job starts with proper site prep — Firm Foundations handles clearing, grading, access construction, and elevation work so what comes after lasts.
What our sitework scope covers
If the base is wrong, everything on top of it fails early. Our sitework scope is built around getting the sub-grade and access right so the paving, concrete, and drainage work on top can perform.
- Site clearing and demolition
- Grading and earthwork to engineered spec
- Access road and service drive construction
- Rock removal and import fill
- Elevation matching and tie-in to existing surfaces
- Fence removal and reinstallation
- Tree protection and vegetation management
- Utility pre-staging and trench backfill
- Subgrade compaction testing coordination
How we scope and sequence sitework
Every sitework proposal starts with a walk and, when needed, a survey. We identify where the existing elevations fit the design, where fill is needed, and where cut-and-fill balances on-site to save haul-off cost.
On campus and large-site projects — New College of Florida in Sarasota, JW Mitchell High School in Pasco — we phase around active operations and other trades. Nothing on a site can start until the sitework is ready.
Subgrade compaction is where corners get cut. We coordinate density testing when the spec calls for it so what the engineer designed is what gets built.

Sitework & Grading FAQ
Do you handle environmental compliance?
Yes — tree protection, SWPPP, and silt fencing are standard. On sites with wetlands or protected species we coordinate with the appropriate agency.
Do you handle subgrade compaction testing?
We coordinate testing with the geotech firm on spec'd projects. On smaller work where the engineer hasn't called for density tests, we still compact to standard proctor and document it.
Do you haul off material?
Yes — on-site cut-and-fill balancing when it works, haul-off when it doesn't. We quote both so you see the trade-off.
How do you phase sitework around other trades?
Pre-con meeting to align the critical path. We don't start sitework until we know when paving, utility, and concrete trades are landing — otherwise the earthwork sits and gets wet.
Do you work with civil drawings?
Yes — we work from the civil package when it exists. On smaller renovations we scope from field conditions and get engineer sign-off where code requires it.
